Why the Perth Hills Wine Region?
When most people think of Perth wine tours, they think of the Swan Valley. And that is understandable – it is well-known, easily accessible and genuinely excellent. But experienced wine drinkers and curious travellers know there is a second Perth wine region that consistently surprises: the Perth Hills.
The Perth Hills wine region sits higher up than the Swan Valley, in the Darling Range around Bickley Valley. The cooler growing conditions produce wines with more structure and better acidity. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling do really well here, which isn’t what most people expect from Perth wine country.
The region is small by design. There are no coach tours running buses up here. A lot of the cellar doors only open on weekends or by appointment, so it genuinely feels exclusive, and not because it’s expensive.

Slightly later departure than our Swan Valley tours to take advantage of the best light in the hills. Your guide collects you from Perth CBD or your nominated meeting point and briefs you on the day as you head into the Darling Range.

Arrival at the first Perth Hills producer. Typically a longer stay here – this is where your guide sets the scene for the region, explaining how the altitude and soil types differ from the Swan Valley and why that matters in the glass.

A mid-morning visit to Core Cider House for a tasting flight of their estate ciders – a refreshing contrast before lunch and a genuine Perth Hills experience. The property setting is beautiful and makes for excellent photos.
